If you are unable to pay the amount owed to get your mortgage back on track, you can apply for a modification with your lender or file for bankruptcy in an attempt to negotiate repayment terms and keep your home. Otherwise your options are typically to either sell or to allow the bank to take possession of the home.
Once a trustee sale is approaching within a few days, it can be difficult to prevent it from happening. Filing for bankruptcy will typically place an automatic stay on the foreclosure, but will require you to work with the court and your creditors on a repayment plan. The sooner you address a pending foreclosure, the more options you may have available to you.
